EL GRECO. EL CABALLERO DE LA MANO EN EL PECHO. (1577)
NOBLE MAN WITH HIS HAND ON HIS CHEST. (1577).
El Greco painted a lot of portraits of people of his time and
imaginary portraits of the apostles, but perhaps this one is the
most known of them all.
We certainly don't know who was this Noble Man. Some say that he
was an impotant marquis, Notary of the city of Toledo where El
Greco lived. His look reflects the spanish seriousness of that
titne and the austerity of that people.
Look the darkness of the background of the picture, that could be
confused with the clothes of the Noble Man. Somebody said that
this Noble Man, had maimed his left hand.
