Torre de Lozoya y monumento a los Comuneros

SEGOVIA TORRE DE LOZOYA Esta torre del S. XIV de carácter defensivo, es robusta y alta. Anteriormente perteneció a la familia de los Cuevas y fue en el siglo XVII cuando pasó a los Lozoya. Hoy es empleada para actividades culturales que se celebran periódicamente. También existe una Casa de los Lozoya, que antes era la Casa de los Cáceres y Tribunal de la Santa Inquisición con portada románica del S. XIII En la Misma Plaza en que se yergue esta torre, Se encuentra el monumento a Juan Bravo, obra de Aniceto Marinas, en homenaje al capitán de una revuelta socio-política sin precedentes, al pretender las clases medias urbanas y campesinas, en un movimiento antiaristocrático un profundo cambio social, exigiendo una disminución de los impuestos y del desorbitado gasto público imperial. La revuelta se frustra, se ajustician a los cabecillas y el emperador Carlos I de España y V de Alemania toma del trono con los condicionantes impuestos por las Cortes de Castilla.

This tower of the 14th cent. of defensive character, is strong and tall. Previously it belonged to the Cuevas Family, but in the 17th cent. pass on to the Lozoyas. Today it is used for cultural activities held periodically.

It also exists the House of the Lozoya Family, that before was the House of the Cáceres Family and Court of the Holy Inquisition with a romanic gate of the 18th cent.

At the same Plaza in which this tower stands, there is also the monument to John Bravo, a masterpiece of Aniceto Marinas, in homage to the leader who put down a socio-political revolt without precedent; when the middle class and the agricultural workers, in an upheaval against the aristocracy tried a profound social change, in which they demanded the lowering of the taxes and the lowering of excesses of imperial expenses. the revolt was frustrated, the leaders were executed and the Emperor Charles I of Spain and V of Germany takes the throne under the conditions delineated by the Castillian Courts.
