Interior of the New Cathedral

Constructed during the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, this complex, together with the one of Segovia, is one of the last manifestations of the Gothic style in Spain. The main façade and the gates of the bishop are to be noted, as well as the Gate of Saint Clement and Gates of the Palms and of the Cross at its northern side. In its interior, the decorations are rich and elegant; worth mentioning are the Golden Chapel, the one of the Veil, and the one of Saint Roque. Behind the main altar sits the Christ of the battles of the El Cid, the Champion of the Reconquest. The Choir is a masterpiece of Alberto Churriguera. The organ of plateresc style was constructed in 1,568 and the churrigueresco in 1,745.
