CLAUSTRO DEL COLEGIO DE FONSECA

También llamado de Colegio de Santiago Alfeo. Es el edificio más significativo de la Rúa del Franco. Proyectado por Juan de Álava y acabado por Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón, en 1543. Fundado por el arzobispo Fonseca III para sede de la universidad que el mismo había conseguido en 1526 del papa Clemente VII. Desde la inauguración del edificio en 1554, su historia se ha desarrollado paralelamente a la de la ciudad, cumpliendo toda clase de funciones.

Aquí tuvo su sede el Seminario de Estudios Galegos, cuyos miembros redactaron el primer anteproyecto de estatuto de autonomía de Galicia. En 1936 el seminario fue prohibido y sus bienes expoliados. En 1982 se instaló el primer Parlamento democrático de la Autonomía. Actualmente sirve de biblioteca general y sala de exposiciones de la universidad.

 

FONSECA COLLAGE CLOISTER

 

Also called "Colegio de Santiago Alfeo". This is the most significant building of the "Rua del Franco" street. Projected by Juan de Álava and finished by Rodrigo Gil de Hontañón, in 1543. Founded by bishop Fonseca III to locate the university obtained from pope Clemente VII in 1526. From the opening of the building, its history has run in parallel to the one of the city, being used for different functions.

Here was placed the Seminar of Galician Studies, being its members who prepared the first draft of the Galicia Autonomy Laws. En 1936 the seminar was forbiden and its funds stolen. In 1982 the first democratic Parliament of the Autonomy of Galicia began to work here. Nowadays the building is used as a general library and the university exhibitions gallery.
